Jojo Pasabay Delivery Builds a Community of Senders and Commuters

Like a lot of folks in the Philippines, especially those who go through EDSA on a daily basis, we got our lightbulb moment while we were stuck (and daydreaming!) in traffic. With errands to run and to-do lists longer than post-its can handle, it’s such a shame to waste 2 to 4 hours on a daily basis.

And so we try to do as much as our productivity apps can handle. From emails to bills payments, and errands like grocery shopping. Today, almost everything can be accomplished with simple clicks on your smartphone. While stuck in traffic on a particularly busy day, we saw that the last thing left on our to-do list was a package that needed to be sent. Although QC to BGC isn’t that far away, rush hour was upon us and the item needed to be sent right away. So we sent messages to friends in QC who might be heading to BGC. In 2 hours, the recipient got the package and we didn’t have to waste time lining up, signing forms, and wondering when the package will be sent.

With a bunch of friends who encountered the same problem, we figured out the best way to handle this problem. We were all pretty much on the same page and we knew that a new courier company or delivery service wasn’t what we needed. We knew that there were like-minded people who wouldn’t mind bringing packages to friends and strangers alike if we were already headed there anyway.

We know how Filipinos are particularly kind and helpful and we basically wanted to harness the good old #bayanihan spirit to solve this problem. This is the gist of the Jojo Pasabay Delivery app -- the willingness to extend a helping hand because we know and feel each other’s everyday struggles. We all know the feeling of helplessness and having not much choice when we needed to send a package so badly, we had to do a lengthy post about it on social media. Or, feeling hopeless while stuck in traffic for hours, thinking that “kung may bayad lang ang pag-upo sa traffic, mayaman na ako.”

With Jojo Pasabay, it’s a community of Senders and Transporters who help each other. Transporters help Senders deliver items, while Senders help a Transporters earn extra cash. Jojo also seeks to help businesses who wish to send their products to their customers on the same day that they ordered. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

We’re pretty optimistic for the future of Manila (and hopefully the rest of the Philippines). We believe that no matter how big the challenge is, there will always be people willing to go out on a limb to build a better future. In the meantime, Jojo Pasabay is our little contribution.

Cheers from #TeamJojo!
